In Studio Newborn Photography + Tips for Your Newborn Photo Shoot! Alameda, CA
Newborns are so tiny and sweet that it should be no surprise they are one of our favorite types of sessions to do. We recommend newborn photography sessions be scheduled within the first 14 days after birth to be sure we capture that smallest stage of life as babies grow and change so fast!
We got to photograph Baby Ryan at 12 days old and had the best time with this little cutie. He would drift in and out of sleepiness so we were able to get a nice mix of sleeping and awake shots.
Our newborn photography sessions can be booked both in home/on location, as well as at our Alameda studio. We photographed Ryan over the winter, making him our first newborn session at the new studio – pretty exciting! The new room is great for photographing babies – big enough to work in, but small enough to warm up easily for baby’s comfort. Plus a comfy couch for mom and dad to chill on while we work!
For this shoot we mainly focused on the classic, traditional unclothed baby, but we also spent some time photographing Ryan in this adorable outfit his mom crocheted.
We also took time to get some sweet family photos.
Ryan and his family were so lovely to photograph and we are so glad they chose us to document his first days!
TIPS FOR A GREAT NEWBORN SESSION:
- Schedule early! Ideally the session would be held within the first 7-14 days for maximum newborn squishyness!
- Warm the room! A nice balmy 80 degrees is best since baby will be spending a lot of time naked, and we want them to be comfy and warm. If we are working at your home please start to preheat your space 30 minutes before our arrival. This is probably THE most important tip for a great session.
- Personalize your photo shoot! We always encourage you to bring cute outfits, hats, headbands, blankets, and other personal mementos to incorporate into our session.
- Relax! There is nothing your baby will do that we haven’t seen before so don’t stress if your baby fusses, needs to take a break to feed, or pees on us. We use natural, gentle posing techniques so your baby will be comfortable. Their safety is our top priority so you can sit back and relax, knowing you are right there if we need you!
