Senior Portraits and Family Photos at St. Mary’s College
I recently had another opportunity to work with a truly amazing family. This time it was to capture their son’s senior portraits before he graduates from Miramonte High School in Orinda! We lucked out with a glorious winter afternoon at St. Mary’s College in Moraga. We chose this spot not only because of of its convenient location, but also its inspiring academic architecture and gorgeous natural setting.
A Full Circle Moment
I had originally met this awesome family through my work shooting Bar and Bat Mitzvahs at Lafayette’s Temple Isaiah. I love when clients return to me for other big life events like this, and it’s always so surprising how much difference a few years can make!
A fun anecdote (which I can’t help mentioning) is that we nailed the Lamorinda trifecta: we met at the temple in Lafayette; the senior photos took place in Moraga; and he’s graduating from high school in Orinda!
With any photo session, one of the goals I always have is to get lots of variety. So with a dual-session such as this, we were able to shoot not only classic senior portraits, but also a range of family combinations: mother and son, father and son, brothers… we even slipped in a new social media profile photo for mom!
Location is Key
Choosing the right location for senior portraits can be tricky—especially when you want something that’s photogenic but also meaningful. For this, St. Mary’s College was an ideal setting. From the lush green lawn of the quad, to the classic architecture, the campus provides a gorgeous range of backdrops. Bonus: since we’re shooting in the Bay Area’s rainy season, it’s covered breezeways and colonnades would allow us to shoot even in inclement weather! Luckily it was a beautiful day, so we were able to make the most of all the campus has to offer 🤩🌳🏛
